Do I need an account?
No. DoNote works without one. A DoBox account is only useful to link the suite's apps or, later, to sync your devices.
Are there ads in DoBox?
No, in no app, and that won't change with Premium.
What do you do with my data?
Only what makes the app work. Usage statistics are optional, pseudonymized, and only feed an internal tool: no advertising service has access to them. Details are in the privacy policy.
Are my notes encrypted?
Yes, on your device, and with no master key: the server can't read the content of your vaults or your sync. The flip side: we can't decrypt your data for you, so keep your access details somewhere safe. On the web, your notes stay in your browser (session encryption).
What isn't end-to-end encrypted?
Two things, and we'd rather tell you:
- logs you send to support;
- content you send to a remote AI (OpenAI or Anthropic).
How does the AI work?
It's off by default. You turn it on if you want.
- Voice transcription runs on your device. The model (about 74 MB) is only downloaded with your consent (in the installed app; not in the web version).
- Cloud AI (OpenAI or Anthropic) only works with your own key. The provider you pick can then read what you send them.
- If an app in the DoBox suite asks to read or edit your hidden notes, DoNote asks you: allow once, always allow, or refuse. Passwords, bank cards and personal data stay out of reach.
Is DoNote really free? What about Premium?
Yes, DoNote is free, with no limit on notes. Premium comes later, with no date or price yet: what it will include is on the Pricing page.
What about Android?
It's not in the store yet, but the DoNote beta APK is already available here: dobox.app/downloads/donote.apk (Android 7 or newer; allow installs from your browser). You can also try DoNote on the web: donote.dobox.app.
What about iPhone?
No iPhone app announced for now. You can use DoNote in your browser at donote.dobox.app.
Can I export my data?
Yes, always, Free or Premium. The list of formats is on the home page.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Settings > Privacy > Delete account. The data linked to your account is then deleted from our servers. Remember to export your notes first.
Is DoBox open source?
Yes, the code is licensed under AGPL-3.0.
Do I need to show ID?
No. There's no identity check (KYC) to use the apps. Writing a note should never require that.
